On behalf of the Lebanese Government and people of Lebanon, I would like to extend a warm welcome to all the participants in Rebuild Lebanon 2007, an extraordinary edition of the Project Lebanon Exhibition.
Over the last thirteen years, the Project Lebanon series of exhibitions have set regional records for international participation and attendance. Rebuild Lebanon 2007 is set to be another example of the international support for Lebanon and its recovery, manifested by this large gathering of businesses and professionals from around the world.
Our government is steadfast in its determination to strengthen confidence in the future of the Lebanese economy by adopting and implementing its comprehensive economic reform program. Certainly, the success of this program relies on a strong partnership and close cooperation with the private sector to allow the Lebanese economy to reassert its regional and global role in a rapidly changing world.
The significant increase in Lebanese exports and re-exports to the countries of the region, especially the Gulf states, reconfirms Lebanon’s status as a gateway to the larger markets of the Middle East. Not only is Lebanon’s building boom stimulated by investments from the Gulf, but also by the fact that Beirut has become a major supply hub for Iraq. Thus, this event provides a unique opportunity to showcase the latest products and solutions to address the challenges facing the domestic and regional construction industries.
The Lebanese Government will continue to encourage development, growth and reconstruction as envisioned by the President of the Council of Ministers, the late Rafik Hariri, who always supported the Project Lebanon exhibitions. We will also continue to pursue our policy of further developing trade with our trading partners, and seek closer cooperation and integration with our Arab neighbors.
We are happy to welcome you once again in Beirut, and wish you all a productive and rewarding event.
